Minister to guests: Ladies and gentleman please be seated

I would like to welcome the friends and family of _____________ and ____________, who have gathered here today, to celebrate the coming together of two lives. The bond of holy matrimony is the deepest of all human relationships and no moment is more filled with meaning, no vow more sacred, no human tie more tender, no act more decisive, and no time more memorable than the decision to live together as husband and wife.

The decision to be married should not be made lightly, but entered into with great insight, reflection and understanding. This ceremony today, is, but an outward symbol of the sacred and inward union, that has already taken place in your hearts and the vow to live together as husband and wife, for the rest of your lives.

The foundation of marriage, is built on three great principles: loyalty, self sacrifice and love.

The first is loyalty, which calls for trust, honesty, openness and faith in each other. It recognizes and honors each other’s individuality and requires that you protect each other’s need to be

Different. It calls for unconditional fidelity and devotion to each other.

Your knowledge and caring for each other, will continue to grow, as you learn to better understand, each others feelings and needs, sharing not only joys and successes, but also sorrows and failures. Always share your feelings openly and discuss your differences, avoiding the pain, that comes from problems suffered in silence.

The second is self sacrifice. From this day, you must surrender your individual interests and desires, to those you build and enjoy together. This sacrifice, will lead you to a richer and deeper life. From this day forward, you belong to one another. You will become one in mind and in heart. You will find as your love grows more perfect, the great joy, that comes with self-sacrifice, for one another.

Always be ready to listen and share your thoughts, when the other seeks your counsel and give comfort, when the other needs reassurance. Look upon each other’s positive traits, with joy and the imperfections, with understanding. Forgive each other the mistakes, which are inevitable in life. Support and encourage each other and take pride in each other’s achievements.

The third and most important principle is love. It is the supreme gift of god, and is the promise you share today. Love is accepting the feelings, thoughts, and intentions of the other and supporting them fully.

The Vow Exchange:

Remember, a good marriage does not just happen, it must be created. In marriage, little things are the big things. Each day you might say to yourselves:

We will never be too old, to hold hands or say “I love you”
We will never go to sleep angry with each other.
We will create a circle of love, that includes both our whole families.
We will show our appreciation and gratitude and always forgive and forget
We will give each other an atmosphere, in which to grow and search, for the good and the beautiful
We will stand together as a team, united against the world

Remember, it is not only marrying the right person, but being the right partner.

Love and honor, one another’s families as your own. Your love will give you the strength, to stand apart and seek your own destinies. From this moment on, you must be the others best and truest friend. To that end, this ceremony, symbolizes the union, that has already taken place in you hearts.

Presenting for the first time to family and friends, Mr. and Mrs. ______________________.

Minister: Ladies & Gentlemen, please rise.

Minister: I would like to welcome the friends and family of (Bride) and (Groom), who have gathered here today to celebrate the coming together of two lives. The bond of Holy Matrimony is the deepest of all human relationships and no moment is more filled with meaning, no vow more sacred, no human tie more tender, no act more decisive, and no time more memorable than the decision to live together as husband and wife.

Minister: Who gives this Bride to be married to this man, and by doing so, blesses this marriage?

Father of the Bride: I do (or Her Mother and I do). Father of the Bride returns to his chair or seat.

Minister: Ladies and Gentlemen, please be seated.

Question of Intent:

Minister: (Bride) and (Groom), you have chosen this very unique and beautiful setting to celebrate the coming together of your lives. Today, you will proclaim the love and sharing that you feel for one another. The commitment of marriage is one of the most important decisions two people can make in their lives… the nuptial vows are a promise of infinite love that unites you in blessed matrimony… and a mutual promise to accept one another as lover, companion and friend.

The stability of marriage depends on many factors… in addition to the love and respect you feel for one another, you are united by a feeling of commitment, fidelity, true friendship and the sincere desire for open communication… the foundation of a health union is mutual trust… and a desire to accept and understand both the virtues and weaknesses of one another.

God created man and woman and gave us the bond of marriage so that the husband and wife may help and comfort each other. Living faithfully together in plenty and in want… in joy and sorrow… and in sickness and health.

Marriage is given to us for the fullest expression of the love between a man and a woman. In the state they belong to each other and with affection and tenderness give freely of themselves to each other.

Marriage was given to us for the well being of society. For the establishment of family… and for the birth and nurturing of children.

Marriage is a holy mystery given to us by God, a mystery wherein a man and a woman are joined together to be one.

(Bride) and (Groom) are here today to affirm their vows of love for each other and to pledge a common purpose. We are gathered here to witness their promises to each other, to surround them with our love, and to ask God’s blessing upon them so that they may be strengthened in their life together.

For these reasons, let this marriage be held in honor by all.

Let us pray:

Dear God, look mercifully upon (Bride) and (Groom) who have come here today seeking your blessing, so that with steadfast love they will honor the promises they make this day.

Amen.
